Slovakia Consular Residence

Studio V - Project Two

Spring 2025

This project is a historic Upper East Side mansion adapted into a consular residence for Slovakia. The multi-level home includes both private living spaces for the consul’s family and formal areas for diplomatic work and entertaining. Because the family is newly relocated and navigating cultural adjustment, the design centers on creating a sense of comfort, identity, and balance. Drawing from the rhythm of Slovakian folk traditions, the spatial sequence alternates between light, open, and formal zones and dark, soft, and intimate ones symbolizing the push and pull between public duty and private life. Biophilic elements and Slovakian Tatras landscape inspired materials help root the family in a sense of place while fostering emotional well-being.
